Southern CA Teaching Summit

SCPGA Teaching Summit Highlights

SCPGA Teaching Summit On-Course Demos

I recently attended the Southern California Teaching Summit, which included two days of unbelievable information that, as teachers, we can translate to all of our students.  Although he did not present until the second day, Jim Flick, a man who was recently voted into the GOLF Hall of Fame, attended the first day to learn more.  After teaching all levels of golf from beginnners to hundreds of touring professionals, his presence drove home the simple fact that we all should attend as many of these developmental events as possible.  Having these top teaching professionals with us, sharing their thoughts on the golf swing, was something I personally enjoyed.  The key to this Summit was the simple fact of being able to ask questions on how students might react after communicating the solution to a particular student problem, or situation in their golf swing.  The second day was also very instrumental as Hale Irwin and Phil Blackmar, Champions Tour players, were there to demonstrate some of their thoughts on how to manage teaching when giving playing lessons to our students.  They were both very informative in their presentation, as well as there candidness in answering all the questions brought to them.  I thought as touring professionals they did an awesome job in telling how they play certain shots in relation to how they would explain it to someone who is not as talented as they are.  These teaching summits have been a big part of my continuing education on how I can help my students.  As I attend more and more of these each year, I realize you can only benefit from these summits and make students enjoy the game even more.

Hi Mike
